Our Vision

"Free Forming" the World of Dance

We at Free Form Dance Academy believe in educating the whole dancer: inside and out. It is through this artistic and technical approach that our students grow into  talented, passionate, and creative dancers. We equip them with the technical skills needed to be successful performers, as well as inspire them to be expressive artists.

​All dancers are welcome. Any age. Any skill level. If you have a passion for dance, Free Form is the studio for you.

Our Story

​Free Form was born out of Kathy Roy's School of Dance (KRSD) under studio Creative Director, Kelley Stroup. Kathy Roy’s School of Dance was established in 1982 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts by founder, Kathy Roy. Kathy Roy's School of Dance began with only 5 students in a basement, and in its 34 years expanded to 120 students studying a variety of dance styles. In 2014, KRSD was sold to then instructor Kelley Hudson, and in 2016 was renamed "Free Form Dance Academy." The name Free Form embodies the creative spirit of the studio, and was chosen from student suggestions for the studio's new name.

Our Structure

​Classes are structured by both age and skill level. Each level has the opportunity to take a variety of classes. Students are placed in classes that will enable their individual growth and success. 

We at Free Form believe all students deserve a chance to flourish, and proper class placement is the foundation of this belief. Please see the "Our Classes" page for a specific breakdown of levels and class availability,

Our Season

​Our traditional dance season runs for 9 months from September to May requiring consistent enrollment for the duration of the dance season. Students build on technique learned throughout the year, so commitment to the entire season is required. 

In addition, we also offer Summer Dance Intensives during the month of August. These dates vary year to year, and exact camp weeks are released in the early spring. Enrollment is first come, first serve. Please see the Summer Intensive section under the "Our Classes" page for more info.​

Our Performance

FFDA's  annual performance takes place  the last weekend in May at Montachusett Vocational Technical School's Performing Arts Center. It is not just a chance for students to display what they have learned during the dance season, but also an opportunity for the studio to come together as a whole to share our passion for dance with the community. It is the continuing goal of the studio to empower each student with confidence, skill and love of performance. Each performance has a completely original theme and storyline, and is performed by students in a non-traditional "dance recital" manner.  FFDA's performances are truly something special, and all our dancers love being a part of such a unique experience.​

 When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor...It's to enjoy each step along the way.
